I recently read “The Rest of God” and one of the points that struck me was that sometimes we have to “waste” time to redeem it. We get so focused on producing. Maybe the best use of our time would be to turn off the cell and tuck away our planner and spend a couple of hours with someone really listening to them, praying with them…we might not have anything tangible to show for it at the end of our day, but it may be the best investment of time we can make.

Maybe you don’t buy them a bunch of stuff, but teach them how to give. How to make something for someone else, how to give things away, and not just because it’s sad that there are people with less than they have. Pity isn’t the same thing as compassion. But to give because Christ gave to them, and truly showing that by how they give to others. I’m just sayin. Love ya’ll. Wish my daughter could understand such things. Hope we are showing her in a way she CAN understand.

I think it depends upon what’s going on in your life at the moment as well as the amount of money. I would love to say that I’d start a charity for the betterment of the world, but sometimes God’s gifts are for you. If God gave me 5,000 today with no srings, I would probably plan a Meditteranean cruise with my mother so that for two weeks she was able to not think about her husbands suicide, the decline in her home value, or her financial future. It’s one of her dreams and this way she could enjoy without feeling guilty about it.

I try my best. I look at how I was raised, where I went wrong and I apply that thought to just common sense when it comes to my 16 year old daughter.
