His initial recognition of need for Christ was at age 12 while attending a children’s service at church.  On a Sunday afternoon, he knelt by his bed and prayed, trusting Jesus as his Savior.  However, that was just the start of a grace-filled journey.  As he grew in understanding of the Word, he was able to better discern the Lord’s voice.  At the age of 18, he surrendered to full time ministry service.  He is growing more aware of his sinfulness and frailty and more confident in a life dependent on Jesus Christ.  He has a passion for music, missions, and discipleship. His parents are natives of Guyana, South America.  Because of this,  he was exposed to different cultures at an early age.  He truly desires to see the church racially reconciled and ministering together to win the lost with the power of the Gospel.

God birthed a desire in Derwin’s heart to start a church in the fall of 2007.  Derwin and Jacquelyn prayed and asked God for direction in formulating the mission and focus for this potential church.  Our prayer was for God to move greatly on our behalf for his glory.

The vision developed and families began asking questions.  As time passed, God continued to further direct in regards to even more specifics.  When Derwin returned to Tampa, FL for his 20th high school reunion in August of 2010, the location was made clear.  Through months (years) of prayer and seeking the Lord, the vision for NorthBridge Church has become a reality.
